A man in Florida was charged with kidnapping and sexual battery, with police alleging he held a woman captive and subjected her to physical abuse.

The Cape Coral Police Department responded to an emergency call the evening of Nov. 18, according to a release, and found a man experiencing a medical emergency and a woman in distress showing “clear signs of physical abuse."

The woman, police say in the release, mouthed “save me” to a responding officer and had multiple bruises and injuries.

Both the woman and the man, identified as Jordan Garrett, 30, were taken to the hospital, police say. There, the woman told police that she had been held captive in her residence by Garrett, who police allege physically assaulted and sexually abused her.

Police also say the woman told them she had previously tried to call for help but that Garrett confiscated her phone and threatened her. Authorities added that the victim’s life was “in peril” and that Garrett denied her an escape or a way to seek help.

Garrett was arrested and charged with battery, depriving a crime victim of medical care and obstructing Justice, preventing the communication to a law enforcement officer, along with kidnapping and sexual battery.

“The Cape Coral Police Department condemns these heinous acts and is dedicated to ensuring justice for the victim,” department Public Affairs Officer Mercedes Phillips says in a statement.

It is unclear if Garrett, who is being held in Lee County Jail on $190,000 bond, has retained an attorney. The News-Press reports that he is due in court for his arraignment Dec. 18.
