Ants can be a real nuisance during the summer months, and if not tackled promptly, they can escalate into a full-blown infestation. However, dealing with them doesn't have to involve costly pesticides which may also pose risks in homes with children or pets.

Sustainable lifestyle guru Michelle Marine, who founded Simplify Live Love, has shared her insights after testing numerous homemade ant traps. She found one particularly "effective" method that "actually works" for killing ants naturally.

Michelle remarked: "There are several homemade ant trap solutions out there, but I haven't had good luck with most of them."

"I like solutions that use simple ingredients, frugal, and natural. This DIY ant bait isn't toxic to humans but is deadly to ants! ".

To combat ants without harsh chemicals, many people turn to household items such as white vinegar, lemon juice, cinnamon, peppermint, or bay leaves, reports the Express.

These natural remedies act as deterrents due to their strong odours, which can obscure an ant's scent trail, hindering their communication and foraging abilities.

While ants tend to steer clear of areas with intense smells, these natural solutions may only offer temporary relief, as the scents dissipate quickly, particularly outdoors.

If you're looking to banish ants from your abode permanently, a homemade concoction could be the magic solution you need a blend of baking soda, yeast, and sugar promises to annihilate these unwelcome guests.

The addition of sugar serves as an irresistible lure for ants, while the baking soda and yeast wage a fatal chemical reaction within the ants' acidic stomachs, generating carbon dioxide that causes them to bloat fatally.

Michelle remarked: "The sweet sugar attracts the ants and the baking soda essentially blows them up! The smell of yeast attracts ants. It also adds to the build-up of carbon dioxide in their digestive systems which kills the ants."

She continued: "This baking soda-powdered sugar-yeast mixture has been the most effective homemade ant bait I've found."

To whip up this potent pest deterrent, just combine one tablespoon each of powdered sugar and baking powder, followed by a teaspoon of dry active yeast in any convenient container.

Michelle advised: "I usually put it in a yoghurt container lid or a mason jar lid. It makes clean up easier."

Deploy the DIY ant trap near your entrance or distribute it in spots frequented by ants.

However, steer clear of sprinkling this remedy on your lawn or flower beds, as it might sap the soil's moisture and wilt your plants.

Not only is this natural ant repellant remarkably efficacious at home, but it's also hailed as a top method to exterminate ants, ensuring they don't intrude on your home space again this summer.
