Peace lilies, renowned for their lush leaves and aptness to bloom extensively when fed with the right fertiliser, can flower 'like crazy' if a certain kitchen scrap is incorporated in their diet weekly. Their low-maintenance nature has made them a darling amongst indoor plant enthusiasts, though encouraging these plants to bloom might sometimes necessitate a little nutritional boost.

An innovative houseplant owner named Gail, part of the Facebook group 'Creative Gardening', has shared the news that peace lilies can be encouraged to bloom profusely by using banana peel as a homemade fertiliser. Gail revealed: "I have been watering my peace lily with banana peel water. It has been flowering like crazy with big flowers and growing faster."

Not stopping at peace lilies alone, she continued: "I have also been watering my other plants with banana water. All are going great! ", reports the Express. Creating this homemade fertiliser is straightforward; Gail recommends placing a banana peel in a glass jar filled with water, screwing on the lid, and allowing the peel to soak for several days before feeding it to the peace lily once weekly.

Gail instructed: "You put the banana peel in a jar of water with a lid and leave it in the water overnight or a couple of days." Concluding her advice, she shared: "I also save the water in a jug. We both eat a banana a day so I have a lot of water to save. I water once a week or more often if needed."

Banana peels are a treasure trove of potassium, essential for flower production and root development, making them an excellent supplement for your peace lily to enhance its strength, health, and bloom size. It's also important to provide peace lilies with balanced fertiliser to ensure they receive the full spectrum of nutrients necessary for optimal growth. However, incorporating banana peel into their care regime is a simple and cost-effective method to boost the plant's vitality in preparation for the flowering season.

Gail shared an image of her peace lily online, leaving thousands of gardening enthusiasts astounded by the plant's vibrant flowers and grateful for her banana feed tip. One enthusiast remarked: "I use banana water too! My plants love it! I bury the peels around plants outside after using them in a couple of pitchers of water. Best blooms in a long time! ".

Another added: "I watered my peace lilies with banana water too...now my plants both look like I just brought them home from the nursery or florist - beautiful! ". In addition, Gail recommended mulching your peace lily to further encourage flower production.

She explained: "My peace lily in this pic is planted in bark mulch in the bottom of the pot halfway up then potting soil to the top then a thin layer of bark mulch to hold in moisture."

"I have done this with all my indoor plants and all outdoor potted plants flowers or vegetables. It has saved me so much money on potting soil and time watering in the summer."
