A novice chef has been mocked after posting a photo of her culinary creation, with critics likening it to 'cat food.'

The woman, known only as Lawrie, proudly posted her "Lunch by Lawrie" on the Facebook group Rate My Plate, where users didn't hold back. The dish featured a fried egg, a modest serving of crinkle-cut chips, and mince in gravy, reports the Mirror.

It was the meat that drew the most scorn, prompting unflattering comparisons to animal feed. One group member commented: "That is the saddest plate I have ever seen," while another wrote: "Looks like my cat food."

A third chimed in: "Never in my life have I seen anyone cook mincemeat and eggs for the same dish." Meanwhile a fourth added: "I'm sorry to say but my cat just vomited that up on the carpet (minus the chips)."

Another added: "You know, I thought I'd never eat cat food either. Life is full of delicious surprises."

One critic didn't mince their words, writing: "WTH is that! ! ! The mince looks okay but the egg looks like it died twice! Where's the mash and veg? Fries don't count."

Finally, another concluded, "That's a socially awkward offering. Comfort food for someone I guess. Not me, I'm feeling distinct discomfort at the thought."

Others came to Lawrie's defence amidst the onslaught of criticism. "You have quite a luxury cat," commented one individual, appreciating the pet comparison, while others in the group encouraged kindness.

Regardless of what you make of Lawrie's culinary attempt, it certainly outshines fellow user Alexander E's homemade Victoria sponge, which was infamously ranked as one of Rate My Plate's most disastrous offerings ever back in 2019.

"Looks like Spongebob had a love child with a whipped cream can," one group member harshly critiqued. Another quipped: "Easy on the steam roller love... I know you've got to give it back to the hire shop tomorrow but I think you've had your monies worth."
