Now that summer is just around the corner, the warmer climes are inviting notorious pests like wasps into homes - so it's time to nip the issue in the bud with a handy solution.

Typically, you'll find wasps becoming lively by the end of April and all through May when they embark on their quest for food and potential nests.

One simple way to deter wasps is to should always make sure unattended rubbish is properly sealed off, as this will help to deter then. But if they do manage to infiltrate your home, there is a handy way to banish them without resorting to harsh chemicals.

You can actually whip up a homemade spritz made from natural ingredients that works wonders in killing off the wasps instantly.

Robynn, the founder of Kitty and Bean and a gardening pro, stumbled across this effective three-ingredient formula while dealing with what she described as "aggressive" wasps entering her home. Its immediate success left her stunned, reports the Express.

In her words: "Once in my space, I want the wasps dead. They can live outside (as long as they're not building a big fat nest in the yard), but coming inside is not okay.

"I also don't believe in using toxic chemicals in my home, if at all avoidable. So, I went on a hunt and found a wasp-killer recipe that really worked. Shockingly well actually. So, now I'm going to share the recipe for this magical stuff with you! ".

Here's how to concoct a natural wasp-killing spray.

You will need:

  • 20 to 30 drops of eucalyptus essential oil

  • 20 to 30 drops of peppermint essential oil

  • Four to eight tablespoons (60ml to 120ml) of dish soap

  • An empty spray bottle

All you need to do is add the ingredients to the spray bottle and then slowly add hot water to the mixture until it is one-third full.

You do not need to use the exact measurements and are fine "eyeballing" it according to Robynn. Make sure to carefully add the water otherwise the mixture may begin "bubbling like mad."

Once you have the mixture in the spray bottle, tightly secure the lid and give it a good shake. Then spray it on the wasp in your home or in your garden and it will die.

Robynn said: "I have found that the more concentrated your solution is, the quicker the wasp dies, However, it's also more harsh on plants and surfaces, so don't overdo it!"

Dish soap is one of the most effective solutions to kill wasps as these insects have an exoskeleton which helps repel water from their bodies.

When dish soap comes into contact with the wasps, it disrupts the water-repelling properties and drowns the wasp quickly when mixed with water.

Wasps are also highly sensitive to strong smells, and peppermint and eucalyptus can confuse any other wasps to discourage them from entering an area.

You do not need the essential oils for this spray to be effective and if you own cats or dogs it is highly recommended not to use essential oils around your home as they can be poisonous to pets.

However, if you're not keen on killing wasps and just want to keep them at bay, simply mix the peppermint and eucalyptus oils together. Add a bit of water without the dish soap and spray it around your home to deter wasps.
