Women in Film and TV Awards 2022: What are they and when will they take place?
The 2022 Women in Film and Television Awards are set to take place on December 2, celebrating the best of women in UK film, TV, and digital media.
Hosted by Women in Film and Television UK, the annual awards, now in their 31st edition, celebrate the achievements of women in the industry across 14 different categories, including directors, writers, producers, project management, and other contributions to the medium.
It is a celebratory occasion honouring some of the brilliant women working in the industry.
Last year’s awards ceremony, the first since the pandemic, saw a star-studded list of winners, including Michaela Coel, Emily Maitlis, and Stacey Dooley.
Who are Women in Film and TV UK?
Women in Film and Television (WFTV) UK, was launched in 1990 by a group of women including Joan Collins, Janet Street-Porter, and Dawn French, with the aim of improving female representation in the industry.
And 31 years later, Janice Tucker, the head of the WFTV board, says the organisation is still as relevant as ever.
“I think, possibly three or four years ago, everyone was thinking, ’Do you still need to have Women in Film and Television, surely now enough progress has been made?’ she said ahead of last year’s awards ceremony.
“And then, of course, the whole #MeToo movement kicked off, which I think was a really important reminder of how far we still have to go. And clearly, behind the camera, directing, running indies, there’s still very few women.
“We talk much more about diversity and inclusion now and I think there’s sometimes a risk that people think that the ‘Women’ box is ticked,” Tucker added. “I find that I have to constantly remind people, you know, it’s not ‘job done’ for women.”
When will the 2022 Women in Film and TV Awards take place?
This year’s awards ceremony will take place on the afternoon of Friday, December 2, at the London Hilton, Park Lane.
