Woodthorpe Garden Centre near Alford voted best in Lincolnshire by our readers

Woodthorpe Garden Centre has been voted the best in Lincolnshire by our readers. We shared a poll asking what you thought was the best garden centre in the county and Woodthorpe came out on top in the final shortlist.

The popular site opened its doors in 1987 opposite Woodthorpe Leisure Park, near Alford. It became the birthplace of British Garden Centres which now owns more than 60 sites across the UK.

Woodthorpe Garden Centre offers all the usual gardening items as well as an assortment of gifts, homeware, and furniture. There is also an onsite restaurant, maze and playground for younger children.

Assistant manager at Woodthorpe, Alan Parks, says the family-friendly atmosphere is what draws customers in. He said: "I think in this area particularly, Woodthorpe is quite a well known destination. You can come and spend the whole day here. I think that's a big thing for people. The kids can play in the playground, you can have lunch here.

"Lots of our staff are really good with customer service and know customers by name because they've been here for quite a while. It's a really family-friendly atmosphere as well so that goes down really well.

"We've had people that have been coming here since it opened and we've had staff that have been here since it's opened. It's a family owned business so that is a really big selling point of Woodthorpe and British Garden Centres as a whole."

Speaking on being voted the best in Lincolnshire, he said: "I'm really pleased because we work hard to maintain a good standard offer good customer service so it's good to know we're doing the right thing."

The garden centre is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. On Saturday, it opens from 9am to 5.30pm and on Sunday it opens from 10am to 4.30pm.
