Worcester Show celebrates diverse cultures on August 11

The city's diverse cultures will be showcased and celebrated at the upcoming Worcester Show.

The Community Marquee is designed to be a relaxing space where visitors can learn about the different cultures that make up Worcester on August 11 at Pitchcroft.

Attendees will have the opportunity to try on traditional outfits and enjoy a variety of music during the event.

Sunil Desayrah of Worcester Welcomes Refugees, said: "This year the Community Marquee will showcase a collection of international groups living in Worcester.

"With displays of crafts, games, music and food tasters.

"We hope to surprise you and show how living in a multi-cultural society enriches our city."

The offerings range from a Ukrainian choir and the Worcestershire England Filipino band to Paurosi, a local singer from Zimbabwe, and brother and sister duo Eltayeb and Khadija who will sing in Arabic.

Worcester Anti-Racism Initiative will also be showcasing North African culture by sharing traditional Arabic desserts and bracelet-making activities.

Joanne Best of Worcester Afro Caribbean Association said: “I’m definitely looking forward to this year’s Worcester Show and being a part of the Community Marquee team on the day.

“It’s a good opportunity for networking with other cultural groups and finding out how diverse a community we are.

“I loved last year’s event, and it was good to meet some of the local community groups.”

Other attractions include food stalls by the Worcestershire Black Cultural Association, offering traditional Nigerian street food, and a display by Worcester Welcomes Refugees.

Mix Café, will be serving refreshments, cakes and sandwiches, and board game enthusiasts can look forward to The Dice Box's selection for families.

Tickets to the Worcester Show can be purchased at www.worcestershow.org.uk.

Supporting partners for the show include Platform Housing, Southco, Worcester BID, Five Star Windows and First Bus, who are providing an improved bus service into the city for the event.

Attendees are encouraged to cycle to reduce their carbon footprint with extra parking for bikes provided on site.

Beryl Bikes are also available to those without their own bike.
