Taylor Swift’s mammoth Eras Tour has just reached its 100th show with the Grammy winner front and centre for more than three hours running around huge stages across the globe. Needless to say many have been in awe at the singer’s staggering feat of fitness but experts are now lifting the lid on her exercise secrets.

Experts at fitness equipment supplier Mirafit pieced together a comprehensive guide on how fans can work out like their favourite pop star. Including the gruelling cardio that comes with being able to sing her full discography alongside the intensive choreography.

The pop superstar played the first of three back-to-back shows at Liverpool’s Anfield on Thursday as part of her record-breaking tour, before she is set to play in Cardiff on June 18, then London and Dublin.

Dance workouts

Unsurprisingly, dance makes up a big part of Taylor’s exercise routine, as she previously told Time she was dedicated to dance training before the tour started and her entertaining choreography has gone viral multiple times. The experts noted that dance workouts can be a more fun way to improve stamina, strength and coordination than normal gym sessions.

There are countless videos and groups online with dance workouts for every skill level and budget. Some YouTubers have even recently risen to fame for Swiftie routines inspired by the Eras Tour choreography.

Cardio

Cardio is essential to keeping the singer’s stamina and endurance levels high enough to belt out her hits while dancing and she previously revealed her training consisted of singing the entire Eras Tour setlist aloud while running on the treadmill every day. While some fans took this seemingly as a challenge to do the same, the experts disagree.

They noted: “For the first time, try out the Taylor-inspired treadmill workout for 25 minutes and see where you go from there.” Inspired by Taylor’s workout, a few playlists have been created by Swifties with Taylor’s tracks that form a complete workout if listeners walk, jog and run according to each song’s tempo.

The Mirafit experts noted: “Running is a brilliant way to strengthen muscles while improving cardiovascular fitness. Getting on the treadmill can also improve your mental health, reducing symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress.”

Weight training

Weight training improves muscle strength and endurance while lowering the risk of injury when doing other forms of exercise. Mirafit recommended dumbbell-assisted squats and planks for those looking to effectively build up their strength and ability as well as deadlifts for more experienced gym-goers.

Core exercises

Taylor’s personal trainer, Kirk Myers, previously revealed that her routine largely focused on strength and conditioning in preparation for the tour with a focus on core workouts. While the details of her exact routine are unknown a short clip from the star shared some insights which the experts have dissected.

They explained: “Taylor seems to use Pilates-style exercises to target her core and glutes. The singer uses ankle weights on both legs, practicing some glute kickbacks. Glute kickbacks target all three glute muscles and strengthen your core and hamstrings, making them a fantastic exercise for your workout routine.”

Breathing exercises

One of the most important tools in a singer’s arsenal is the power behind their breathwork and Kirk revealed to Vogue that Taylor pairs breathing exercises with her gym sessions for an unconventional core workout. The Mirafit experts explained: “Trying out some breathing exercises during a workout is also a great gateway into practicing mindfulness and meditation, which can effectively reduce stress levels and symptoms of anxiety.

“A great breathing exercise to try is the belly breathing technique. This technique involves placing one hand on your stomach and the other on your chest as you breathe in and out through the nose to observe your belly filling with air,” they added.

Amid the intense routine, the experts highlighted that resting is just as important to keeping fit as the actual workouts. Although Taylor reportedly works out six days a week, having sufficient rest between sessions can reduce the risk of injury and over-exertion.

The experts cautioned: “While Taylor is rarely able to take a rest day between her gym sessions and shows, it’s realistically crucial to practice taking a break between each workout. Pushing yourself too far can ultimately result in burnout, causing more harm than good to your fitness journey. It’s more important to stay consistent rather than overburdening yourself.”
