Wrexham executive Humphrey Ker has refused to rule out a possible move for Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy this summer as the Reds begin preparations for life in League One.

The Dragons continued their impressive rise under Hollywood owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds by securing their second straight promotion in as many seasons.

Their first promotion brought an end to their 15-year exile from the Football League, and this latest success will present a number of new challenges to Phil Parkinson and his side. As such, preparations for the new campaign are likely to be set into motion soon, including a recruitment strategy for the summer transfer window.

Wrexham have previously succeeded in persuading players to drop down from higher divisions to play for them, including the likes of Paul Mullin, Steven Fletcher and James McClean.

Now, there's a suggestion they could be looking at Premier League winner Jamie Vardy, who at the age of 37 is approaching the end of his current deal with the Foxes.

He scored 18 goals last season to help City return to the Premier League at the first time of asking, but he could well be on the look out for a new challenge.

When asked if Wrexham could make a move, executive director Humphrey Ker refused to rule anything out.

"There's nothing to say that Jamie Vardy wouldn't be a great Wrexham player," Ker told SPORTbible.

"It's not a name I've had mentioned inside the building before but, you know, age and profile wouldn't put us off."

Should he choose to start a new chapter of his career, it seems likely there will be plenty of offers on the table, with the striker himself seemingly ruling out the possibility of retirement.

"Listen, I’m not ready to hang the boots up yet," he said recently. "The legs feel fine and I feel as fit as I ever have so we’ll just see what happens."

There is still a possibility that Vardy will stay at Leicester, with Foxes' manager Enzo Maresca already expressing his eagerness to keep his working relationship with Vardy.

The Leicester manager said: “Jamie Vardy is Leicester. Jamie Vardy has always scored goals in his life and he’s going to score goals even when he’s 40, 45. It’s in his blood to score goals. We are very lucky that he’s our player.

“Now we finish (the season), we have a game Saturday, and then we sit. But my feeling is that he’s going to stay – this is my feeling, if I can decide.”
