The remains of World War II US Army soldier William E Calkins returned to his home state of Oregon on September 6, more than 80 years after his death, footage here shows.The Oregon Army National Guard conducted a “planeside dignified transfer” for Calkins at Portland International Airport.Calkins’s body was identified in April using “dental and anthropological analysis, as well as circumstantial evidence,” according to the Department of Defense.The 20-year-old Oregon native was captured as a prisoner of war by Japanese forces and died on November 1, 1942, the department said.Calkins is due to be buried in Fir Lawn Memorial Park, Hillsboro, on September 13.
