Yahoo! top searches: 'Winter weather' most searched-for term in January

Last month's big freeze was the top talking point for Yahoo! users, as it ranked as the highest search item in January.

'Winter weather' was the top search query on Yahoo! UK, as large parts of the country were blanketed in snow and temperatures plummeted.

It was the top search term in the first month of 2013, ahead of 'Celebrity Big Brother' and 'Fantasy Football' in second and third respectively.

Such was the influence of the sub-zero weather in the UK, that it generated ten times more searches than the second highest item.

Driver were left stranded, flights were grounded and transport systems ground to a halt when several inches of snow hit the UK in the last week of January.

'Liverpool FC', a club with huge support who were also knocked out of the FA Cup by lower league opposition last month, were the fourth highest search term.

The fifth highest search term was 'HMRC Self Assessment', followed by Lacey Banghard, Leeds United and Arsenal.

'Les Miserables' and 'Dancing on Ice' completed the top ten most searched for terms last month.
