Yellowstone National Park shooting leaves suspect dead, ranger injured
A shooting at Yellowstone National Park on July Fourth left a park ranger wounded and the suspect dead, according to a release from the National Park Service.
There are no active threats to the public, officials said.
The shooting took place at Canyon Village in the central part of the park overnight and Thursday morning, authorities said. Rangers responded to a report of someone making threats with a firearm and exchanged gunfire with the suspect.
The park service has declined to release the name of the suspect. The injured ranger was taken to a nearby regional hospital and is in stable condition, according to the release.
Due to an investigation into the incident, an area around Canyon Lodge remains closed.
The FBI is leading the investigation, supported by park service special agents.
The park service said no additional information is available at this time because details about the incident are under investigation.
