Yellowstone Will Premiere in NovemberParamount

It's been more than a year since the first half of Yellowstone season 5 wrapped up, but at last there's an end in sight for the hiatus. Today, the series announced that the second part of the season, which will now encompass the final episodes of the show, will premiere on November 10, 2024 on Paramount Network.

The news confirms the timeline that was previously announced last fall, saying that the series would debut again in November 2024, however the announcement of a firm date is still a huge event for fans, who have seen tentative premiere dates pass by for months.

Originally slated to air in late 2023, the production schedule for the second half of the season was apparently delayed by a combination of strikes by the writers and screen actors guilds, and behind-the-scenes tensions that ultimately led star Kevin Costner to announce he would be leaving the series. Costner has since said he is not involved in the series's final run of episodes.

In late May 2024, Paramount announced that filming had officially begun on the second half of season two. As with previous seasons, production is taking place in Montana.

All hope is not lost for fans hoping for more of the Dutton family's ranching drama, either. Along with the announcement of Yellowstone's late 2024 finale, Paramount also revealed that while the flagship show will be coming to a close, two new Dutton-based spin offs are also in the works, currently operating under the working titles 1944 and 2024.

“Within five years, we grew Yellowstone from a hit U.S. cable show with five million viewers into a global hit franchise with over 100 million fans around the world and multiple extensions – and, we’re just getting started,” Chris McCarthy, President/CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, which produces the show, said in the announcement. “On the heels of 1883 and 1923’s success, our new planned spinoffs, 1944 and 2024, will take audiences on a thrilling, new and unexpected journey with the complex and compelling storytelling that has become a hallmark of the franchise and has helped turn it into a worldwide cultural phenomenon—thanks to the creative mastermind of Taylor Sheridan.”

Though additional details about those series have not been forthcoming as yet, it seems likely that 2024 seems likely to be the previously announced spin off starring Matthew McConaughey. Both the title and previous rumors about the series suggest it will be contemporaneous to the end of Yellowstone, with a Deadline report in May 2023 stating that the McConaughey "is expected to be joined by handful of original Yellowstone cast members," in the series. (In a later interview with THR, Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan seemed to indicate that the show could have an entirely new cast and setting, so at the moment, anything seems possible.) Deadline also reports that 2024's premiere "will follow the conclusion of Yellowstone."

Less is known about 1944, though the possibility of a spin off based in the '40s was first suggested as a possibility back in October 2022. Considering the success of Sheridan's other decades-based spin offs, 1883 and 1923, the latter of which is also set to return for a second season at an as yet unannounced date, the decision to continue the story of the Dutton family history hardly comes as a surprise.
