If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to set a car on fire, great news: now you can do it safely without incurring any property damage.

TT Custom Fab LLC, a fabrication company specializing in custom metalwork, has created the perfect piece for your yard if you’re a car enthusiast (and a little bit of a pyro): a Jeep fire pit that sure looks like the real thing.

The fire pits come in a variety of colors that cost $1,165 (for the Wrangler) or $900 (for the raw steel model). We were curious about what it takes to make one of the pits, so we reached out to TT Custom Fab for a walkthrough of the process.

Creating a pit starts with purchasing two steel plates: an 11-gauge for the body of the Jeep, and a 16-gauge for the tires, says CEO and owner Patrick Malin. “The 16-gauge is thinner, and makes it easier to [create] a circle,” he tells Popular Mechanics.

From there, Malin and his team place the steel plates onto an ArcLight Dynamics CNC plasma table and cut out all the parts for the pit. Next comes some fine tuning.

“We take all the parts and prep them to be welded by grinding all the corners to remove any kerf [spaces left behind after plasma cutting]. We then use a small brake press to make all the specific bends for each panel and piece of the Jeep,” says Malin.

Once Malin and co. cut all the pieces and prepare them for assembly, they weld them together with a Lincoln MIG welder and .035 hard wire with an argon/CO2 gas mixture. Malin says the production process takes about 12 hours from start to finish, excluding the time it takes to paint the pits in a heat-resistant coating.

You can choose from several Jeep models, including 2- and 4-door Wranglers and a truck. Plus, you can pick between a wood-burning or propane model. Ready for the best backyard ever?
