Young actors praised by new president of Worcester theatrical society

A Worcester dramatic society's new president has hailed the youth society's vibrant talent as 'a joy to behold'.

After attending a rehearsal of the upcoming production of 'The Addams Family', David Skelton praised Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society's (WODS) 50 young performers.

The play is set to run at the Swan Theatre, Worcester, from Tuesday, August 6 to Saturday, August 10, 2024.

Mr Skelton said: "Once again, the multi-award-winning group are serving up another sure-fire hit.

"I would encourage everyone who enjoys a theatrical night out to go and support the youngsters of WODYS at the Worcester Swan Theatre.

"You won't be disappointed.

A veteran of Worcester's local theatre scene, Mr Skelton has been involved with drama in the area since the late 1970s.

His tenure spans decades of service, including time on-stage himself and behind-the-scenes work on committees and in management roles.

This esteemed appointment follows Mr Skelton's predecessor, Michael Astles, who had held the presidential role for the last two years.

Established in 1982, WODYS, the youth group of the society, has grown into one of the country's leading amateur musical theatre groups for young performers.

It regularly boasts an average membership of around 60 youngsters between eight and 18, with a waiting list.

At the end of the rehearsal, Mr Skelton praised WODYS members once more, sharing his anticipation for their forthcoming production.

He said: "It has been really fun to see a bit of ‘The Addams Family’. You are really very good and I am looking forward to seeing the whole show at the Swan Theatre."
