Young woman dies after falling from cliffs

A woman has died after falling from cliffs in the South West. Devon and Cornwall Police were called to the Barrowfields area in Newquay, Cornwall, at around 7.30pm on Monday.

Emergency services, including HM Coastguard and the RNLI, rushed to the scene but the woman, who was in her 20s and from the Newquay area, was pronounced dead. Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Investigating officers are now appealing to the public for information on what happened. They said that the woman was with other people before falling from a nearby cliff.

Devon and Cornwall Police said: "It is believed that the woman was in the company of a number of other individuals prior to falling from a nearby cliff. We are particularly keen to hear from anybody who saw the woman in the Barrowfields area that evening."

"Due to prior police contact with the woman on Saturday 18 May, a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), as is normal procedure in these circumstances."

"Anybody with information is asked to contact us on 101 or via our website quoting log 872 of 20 May."
