Zac Hanson and Wife Kate Celebrate Their 18th Wedding Anniversary: 'The Best Thing I Have Ever Done!'

The Hanson singer tied the knot in 2006 when he was 20 years old

Zac Hanson is celebrating a big milestone!

The Hanson musician, 38, marked his 18th wedding anniversary on Monday, June 3, with a touching tribute to his wife, Kate, on Instagram.

Alongside a smiley selfie of the couple, he reflected on what the occasion means to him. "18 years ago today my wife and I were married, the best thing I have ever done! I hope for every man, that they would be so lucky to find a woman of such quality and character and beauty as my Kate," he wrote, before sharing how his wife has enriched his life.

"Someone to help you become more than you are, and lead you back to safe harbor when you go astray, someone who will love you more than you will ever deserve," he continued of Kate.

Since Zac and brothers Isaac and Taylor found global fame as a boy band in the late 1990s with hits including "MMMBop," the trio has kept mostly out of the spotlight, preferring to focus on their growing families while continuing their music careers.

In a 2022 interview with PEOPLE, Zac — who shares sons Shepherd, 16, Abraham, 10, and Quincy, 3, and daughters Junia, 13, and Lucille, 7, with Kate — said his children only know him as "Dad" at home, not a famous singer.

"My kids, they don't think of our career at all," Zac explained. "They're always welcome, but [with my kids I'll be] like, 'You want to come to the show?' [They'll say,] 'Yeah, nah. Maybe next time' — in a beautifully confident way."

At the time of the interview, the brothers were on the road, in the middle of a 90-date tour in support of their album Red Green Blue, and Zac credited Kate — along with Isaac and Taylor's wives, Nicole and Natalie, respectively — with holding down the fort at home for their large families.

"We're married to amazing women, and they match our personalities very well because we're not at all the same," Zac said. "I think the biggest thing about this lifestyle is it can oftentimes become all about you, the band, touring ... But my wife and my relationship has just never been about that."

He added of his bond with Kate, "It obviously formed in some way around Hanson, but it was just about a very, very deep ability to talk and share. I think we come back to that strength over and over and over again."

Last month, Zac, Taylor and Isaac made a rare red carpet appearance together at the Inaugural Grammy Hall of Fame Gala at the Grammy Museum, where they performed as part of a tribute to the Doobie Brothers. The Hansons took a moment to reflect on the very first time they attended the Grammy Awards back in 1998.

"It was an amazing experience," Taylor told PEOPLE. "Here we are, just a bunch of songwriter kids playing in a band, trying to make it happen. Then it happens and here you are performing in front of, not only legends, but also some of your idols and stuff. It's amazing."

Zac recalled that the 1998 Grammys were held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, making the moment even more memorable.

"It was special because it was really intimate and the people there were your peers. Mostly inductees, mostly people who were up for records, people who were a part of albums in the industry," he explained. "So it's a special thing to be seen by your peers and [have them say] 'Hey, you're worthy of recognition.' "

Zac also hinted that the younger generation of Hansons could one day be making music together.

"There's definitely music in the genes, in the kids. You see some in Taylor's kids and Issac's kids, particularly the older ones," he told PEOPLE. "Our situation was, I think, accelerated by having three brothers in the same room liking the same music. So we'll see what they do. It will never be pushed upon them, but always, there's many instruments and studios that we can help them if they want that."
