Zack Snyder's 300 to get unexpected TV show

300, the film from Zack Snyder, is getting an unexpected television companion, with Warner Bros set to produce a new series.

As per Variety, the company is in talks to create a prequel to the 2006 film, which told the story of King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and his army of 300 Spartans during the Battle of Thermopylae.

With the project in its infancy, plot and production details are understandably scarce, but Snyder is reportedly in talks to direct the series as well as serve as an executive producer. There is no news of a potential broadcaster or streamer yet, so it remains to be seen how the series will take shape.

The ultra-stylised action film, which was based on Frank Miller’s comic book series, also starred David Wenham, Lena Headey, Michael Fassbender and Dominic West. A 2014 sequel, 300: Rise of an Empire, saw Wenham and Headey reprise their roles, with Sullivan Stapleton and Eva Green joining in new roles.

Snyder, who co-wrote the screenplay for the sequel, has since developed a partnership with Netflix with his Army of the Dead and Rebel Moon franchises, with the latter being a passion project for the director.

Following the release of Part One: A Child of Fire, Snyder spoke exclusively with Digital Spy about the process of developing the saga, explaining: “My team of people I work with normally, they're very world-build savvy. They know how to put something together.

“I have all these amazing illustrators I work with just on a daily basis anyway. They've all gotten to stretch and really stretch their muscles. It's worked out perfectly. Everyone's trained up, and ready to do it. So it's good.”

A Child of Fire was subsequently followed by a sequel, The Scargiver, with Snyder also planning director’s cuts for both entries as well as follow-up instalments in the franchise.
