Zara Holland avoids jail after being accused of breaking COVID quarantine rules in Barbados

Love Island’s Zara Holland has avoided jail after she was accused of breaking COVID rules on holiday in Barbados.

The reality star, 25, appeared in court this week accused of breaking quarantine rules.

However, according to reports she escaped jail time and instead received a £4,417 fine.

Holland was in Barbados with her boyfriend Elliott Love.

Police said the star was tested for the coronavirus and told to remain in quarantine at her hotel, but that when a COVID unit checked, she had left.

According to a press release from the Royal Barbados Police Force, she was then “intercepted” at the airport where the couple were apparently attempting to leave the island.

She appeared in court this week and was fined.

The Barbados Today website previously published an apology from Holland for what she described as "a massive mix-up and misunderstanding".

She told the publication: “I firstly wish to apologise to the entire country of Barbados for what has been a massive mix up and misunderstanding during my most recent stay.

“I am currently working closely with the local authorities to rectify any issues on my part and will issue an update and full statement which I think is the only right thing to do to the government and citizens of Barbados.”

Holland, who was a contestant on Love Island in 2016, went on: “I have been a guest of this lovely island in excess of 20 years and would never do anything to jeopardise an entire nation that I have nothing but love and respect for and which has treated me as a family.”
