Zelda Williams Says She Was 'Fascinated’ by Late Dad Robin Williams' Career from Young Age
Williams is set to make her feature-length directorial debut with the zombie-themed movie 'Lisa Frankenstein'
Zelda Williams is speaking about her fascination over the career of her late father Robin Williams, revealing how he inspired her to pursue a path in entertainment.
"I was fascinated by it early," Zelda, 34, told Entertainment Tonight as she reminisced about following her dad around on set. "When you're that young, I don't think you grasp that it's a job, really; just like a fun thing you go and visit."
"That was when I was old enough to really understand that there was a whole bunch of jobs you could also do. And that set was really beautiful,” Zelda recalled of being behind the scenes of the 1999 sci-fi dramedy Bicentennial Man, in which Robin played the role of Andrew Martin.
Speaking about the movie’s director Chris Columbus, Zelda added that he “runs a really wonderful set and he's such a kind human that I think you weren't walking into a space that felt tense as well.”
“So, really, it gives you a false sense of security in our industry because then you go and you're like, 'Oh, none of these things get to be made anymore, like these huge sets,' " she told the outlet.
Zelda, meanwhile, is set to make her feature-length directorial debut with the zombie-themed movie Lisa Frankenstein, which will be released in theaters on Feb. 9.
“Still not sure it has sunk in yet that all this stuff is just 'out' now, instead of existing as dozens of emails and texts behind the scenes,” the actor-turned-director wrote on Instagram earlier this month.
In the post, Zelda shared a poster for Lisa Frankenstein, which shows stars Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse sitting alongside each other. She added of the film, which was written by Diablo Cody, “More to come very soon obviously, but til then, HOLY CRAP!”

Back in December, while speaking about her father, Zelda opened up to PEOPLE about how she and her family would set time aside to spend with each other despite his busy acting schedule.
“Dad's job made it pretty hard to keep anything like a yearly tradition really, aside from Thanksgiving or days when sets would shut down,” Zelda said.
“So we didn't really have much in the way of that, but cooking together was a big part of our family," she continued. "We would eat together every Tuesday, however many family members were in town.”
Robin — who died in August 2014 — shared Zelda and Cody, 31, with his second wife Marsha Garces, as well as son Zak, 40, with his first wife Valerie Velardi.
