Apple Unveils Its Latest iPhone Model

Apple has unveiled its new iPhone although the device was not the strongly rumoured iPhone 5.

Instead, the technology firm showed off its new iPhone 4s, an upgrade to its current model.

The new phone was presented to the public at an event in California.

While the 4s model looks very similar to its predecessor, the company was keen to point out the differences.

Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president said: "...don't be deceived. Inside it's all new."

Apple announced its new operating system, iOS5 which will run the phone and its other devices, which boasts the ability to sync content wirelessly.

That means newer Apple devices can update content without having to plug in to a Mac or PC.

There is also an upgrade to the phone's camera and will allow users to film video in HD.

The company also unveiled voice recognition software called Siri.

During the demonstration, the application, which has been described as "a personal assistant" answered questions about the weather and stock markets.

However some pundits and fans were disappointed that the new handset was not the long awaited iPhone 5.

It was Apple's first major product event without Steve Jobs presiding for several years.

New CEO Tim Cook is led the show after Mr Jobs, who has been battling health problems, resigned from the post in August.

Apple also unveiled a new line of iPods, including a Nano model with a multi-touch display that promises to be easier to navigate.

The iPhone 4S will be released on October 14 with the prices ranging from $199 (£130) for the 16gb model to $399 (£260) for the top end, 64gb model.
