Boy's Arm Ripped Off By Washing Machine

An investigation has begun after a toddler had his arm torn off by a washing machine.

It is believed three-year-old Lewis Lightfoot lost the limb when he opened the door of the machine, which kept running instead of coming to an automatic stop.

Before the accident, he had been helping his mother Rachel, 24, fill the machine with clothes at their home in Crewe, Cheshire.

The mother-of-four was in her living room when she heard her son screaming hysterically.

She found Lewis covered in blood with his left arm detached and inside the washing machine.

Unfortunately, doctors were unable to reattach the child's arm which had been torn off just below the shoulder.

The boy faces further surgery on the injury but will eventually be given a prosthetic limb.

The washing machine, which was rented, has been taken away by Trading Standards investigators.

Since the accident on September 11, Lewis' friends, family and local police have raised money to fund a trip for the toddler to Disneyland.
