Campsite Death Parents: She Was Our Whole World

The parents of a six-year-old girl who died at a Dorset campsite have said they are devastated at the loss of the child they described as "our whole world".

Isabelle Harris died in the early hours of Friday morning in hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest at the Holmsley campsite in the New Forest, Hampshire.

Lee and Tracey Harris, from Gosport, Hants, said in a statement: "We are all absolutely devastated about what has happened.

"No words are strong enough to describe how we feel at the moment.

"Isabelle was our whole world; everything we ever did was for her. She was a really special girl and this is a huge loss to everyone who knew her."

Paramedics were called to the Holmsley campsite in Bransgore, Dorset, just after midnight on Friday.

A spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service said that when they arrived, the girl was "fitting and not breathing".

She was taken to Southampton General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Mr Harris, 30 and 40-year-old Mrs Harris were initially arrested on suspicion of murder.

However, Hampshire Police have confirmed that a post-mortem examination had found there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of Isabelle and said it was a "tragic incident".

The couple said: "Our thanks also go to Hampshire Constabulary. We thank them for the way they have treated us, being as open and honest as they can.

"We also appreciate their ongoing support and have no issues with their actions."

The campsite closed after news of the child's death broke early on Friday and families already on site were not allowed to leave while the investigation took place.

One witness told Sky News she was woken by the sound of screams and someone repeatedly pressing a car horn before police and paramedics arrived at the scene.

The death left the mood at the campsite sombre with many campers hoping to enjoy the Easter break deciding to leave early.

The Camping and Caravanning Club 's director general Robert Louden said: "We were saddened to hear the tragic news and have since been assisting the police with their ongoing investigations.

"On behalf of the club I would personally like to thank our holiday site managers, assistants and campers on site at Holmsley for their full co-operation and compassion, and our thoughts are very much with the little girl's family and friends at this difficult time."

No date for an inquest opening into the death has been set.
