CCTV: Train Near-Miss As Man Cheats Death

CCTV footage has captured a man cheating death after he stepped into the path of an oncoming train in Australia.

The 20-year-old ignored a barrier and warning bells as the train, which was travelling at around 37mph (60kph), approached Cannon Hill station in Brisbane.

The footage shows the man dart across the tracks, with the train missing him by a split second.

He was taken to hospital, but escaped serious injury.

The man faced court over the incident, which happened in August, and was fined $AU2,200 (£1,293).

The female train driver was reportedly traumatised by the incident and had to take leave from work, according to local media.

Queensland Transport Minister Scott Emerson said people are gambling with their lives when they take such chances.

"The message has to get out there that people are playing Russian roulette with their lives and they will lose. That is the reality," he said.
