Dozy burglar caught by police - after falling asleep on victim's sofa

The sleepy crook in Burton-on-Trent, Staffs, awoke in his victim's house to find three officers standing over him, and was arrested at the scene.

A bungling burglar was arrested by police - after he fell ASLEEP on his victim's sofa.

The sleepy crook was discovered by officers napping in the living room of a property he had broken into on Sunday evening.

Police were called to the house in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffs, by a neighbour who had seen the man acting suspiciously.

The 43-year-old, from Warrington, Cheshire, awoke to find three officers standing over him and was arrested at the scene.

He was taken into custody where he is being questioned in connection with alleged criminal damage caused by forcing his way into the property.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police confirmed that officers had been called to the house - which was unoccupied at the time -  at around 9.30pm.

He added: “Police entered the unoccupied property and found a man asleep on the settee.

“The 43-year-old from Warrington was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and remains in police custody.'
