Kate Middleton is reportedly 'heartbroken' over Prince William's decision to send their eldest son, George, to boarding school. The Princess of Wales is said to have 'given in' to her husband's wishes as it is part of 'royal duty.'

The couple were spotted surveying Eton College last June fuelling rumours about Prince George's educational future. Both his father, William, and uncle, Prince Harry, attended the £15,432-a-term school.

But Kate is reportedly apprehensive about sending her first born to boarding school after she experienced bullying in her childhood. However, she has now recognised it as an inevitable part of his 'destiny', AberdeenLive reports.

A royal source said: "Kate long disagreed with her husband about sending him away, even though it's tradition. Kate thinks sending him to such a stuffy, upper-crust institution goes against all of their efforts to modernise the monarchy.

"Plus, she'll miss George desperately. She and William argued about it for years, but he has finally won."

Prince William himself joined the prestigious Berkshire school in 1995, where he stayed during term time, often spending weekends with his grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth, at Windsor Castle nearby.

A source told InTouch Weekly: "But she's still heartbroken. She was horribly bullied at her first boarding school, and can't bear the thought of George suffering through that."

The school admits boarding school pupils from age 13 - meaning 10-year-old Prince George has a few years left at home. For admission, children have to undertake a 150-minute verbal and mental reasoning test.

The insider added: "But it still seems as if her family is being torn apart. There's also the worry that William will insist the other two kids be shipped off next. Kate knows this is all part of her 'royal duty'."
