Evans Pips Contador To Tour Stage Win

Rui Alberto Wins Stage 8 Of The Tour De France

Cadel Evans has won the fourth stage of the Tour de France by a nose after a sprint to the finish with Alberto Contador.

The 107-mile stage started in the rain at Lorient, and finished with a short climb into Mur-de-Bretagne.

Defending champion Alberto Contador made a break about a mile from the finish, but was unable to create enough of a gap to outsprint the rest of the leaders.

In the sprint to the line, he was edged out by Evans, as the Australian secured only his second stage win on the tour.

Norway's Thor Hushovd finished sixth to retais the yellow jersey.

British Olympic champion and Team Sky lead rider Bradley Wiggins was 11th, with David Millar and Geraint Thomas 22nd and 29th.

Millar is fourth in the overall standings and Wiggins is sixth, ten seconds back - with his team-mate Geraint Thomas seventh.
