Ferguson Cop: Brown 'Looked Like A Demon'

Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson told investigators that Michael Brown looked like a "demon" in the altercation that led to the teen's fatal shooting.

Officer Wilson’s testimony was revealed for the first time after the grand jury decided not to indict him over the shooting death of the black, unarmed teenager last August. The decision sparked violent protests .

Here are some of the main points from Officer Wilson's testimony.

Officer Wilson, still in a police car, stopped Mr Brown and friend Dorian Johnson as they were walking in the middle of a Ferguson street.

:: THE ENCOUNTER

"As I approached them, I stopped a couple of feet in front of Johnson."

"As Johnson came around my driver's side mirror I said, 'Why don’t you guys walk on the sidewalk.'"

As Officer Wilson asked again, he drew an expletive.

:: TENSIONS ESCALATE

Officer Wilson said he asked a dispatcher to send additional officers, then backed his vehicle in front of Mr Brown and his friend. As he tried to open the door, Mr Brown slammed it back shut.

"I was hit right in the side of the face with a fist. I don’t think it was a full-on swing, I think it was a full-on swing, but not a full shot."

:: 'HULK HOGAN'

Officer Wilson said he tried to defend himself as Mr Brown, who stood at 6ft 3in and weighed nearly 300 pounds, became more aggressive. (Reports say Mr Wilson is himself a tall man at 6ft 4in, with a slender frame)

"And when I grabbed him, the only way I can describe it is I felt like a five-year-old holding onto Hulk Hogan."

"Holding onto a what?" Officer Wilson is asked.

"Hulk Hogan, that's just how big he felt and how small I felt just from grasping his arm."

The altercation continues, as Officer Wilson weighs his options.

:: THE GUN

"I drew my gun, I turned. It is kind of hard to describe it … I said, 'Get back or I’m going to shoot you.'

"He immediately grabs my gun and says, 'You are too much of a p**** to shoot me.'"

:: DECISION TO OPEN FIRE

"At that point I thought I was getting shot. I can feel his fingers try to get inside the trigger guard with my finger and I distinctly remember envisioning a bullet going into my leg. I thought that was the next step."

Officer Wilson tries to get the gun from Mr Brown.

"When I did get it up to this point, he is still holding onto it and I pulled the trigger and nothing happens, it just clicked. I pull it again, it just clicked again.

"At this point I’m like why isn't this working, this guy is going to kill me if he gets hold of this gun. I pulled it a third time, it goes off."

Mr Brown is "startled".

:: 'DEMON'

Mr Brown stepped back and then looked at him with the "most intense, aggressive face".

"The only way I can describe it, it looks like a demon, that's how angry he looked. He comes back towards me again with his hands up."

:: FIRED AGAIN

Officer Wilson told the grand jury that he fired two shots in the car before Mr Brown took off running and he followed him.

"I see him start to run and I see a cloud of dust behind him. I then get out of my car."

"We start running. … And there is a light pole right there, I remember him running towards the light pole."

Cars go by, they both stop.

"And then he starts to turn around, I tell him to get on the ground, get on the ground.

"He turns, and when he looked at me, he made like a grunting, like aggravated sound and he starts, he turns and he’s coming back towards me."

Officer Wilson shoots again.

"I don't know how many I shot, I just know I shot it. I know I missed a couple, I don't know how many, but I know I hit him at least once because I saw his body kind of jerk or flinched."

The shooting continues until "the demeanour on his face went blank, the aggression was gone, it was gone".
