Karen Gillan: Doctor Who trumps Marvel for crazy fans (exclusive)

Not Another Happy Ending star calls BBC series ‘the mother of all sci-fi’.

‘Doctor Who’ and ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ star Karen Gillan has experienced the full force of sci-fi fandom during her short but impressive career.

Still, she thinks the Doctor’s devotees will trump Marvel’s many superhero fanboys “hands down”.

“’Doctor Who’ is like the mother of all sci-fi!” said Karen, who's starring in new rom-com ‘Not Another Happy Ending’. “It’s being going for 50 years, it’s the longest running sci-fi show in the world and people are absolutely passionate - they have this sense of ownership over it. It’s actually incredible to witness.”

[Karen Gillan: Shaving my head was hilarious]

Speaking about her new film, in which Karen plays a young author who can only write when she’s miserable, the 25-year-old also joked if she was to write her own book, it would be about “the tortures of having no siblings.”

“I was trying to sound interesting…” she laughed.

Karen also admitted she knew nothing about the upcoming ‘Doctor Who’ 50th Anniversary show ‘Day Of The Doctor’, in which she was rumoured to be appearing.

“I’m going to be watching like everybody else. I don’t know what’s in it. Nobody’s told me,” she said. “And I feel like I have a right to know these things! Apparently not though.”

Karen also spoke out about the experience of shaving her head for her role in ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’, admitting she found the whole thing “hilarious”. You can see her talk about that, and more details from the Marvel movie, here.

‘Not Another Happy Ending’ is out now in the UK.
