Man Loses Face Parts In 'Sick' Club Attack

A man has had parts of his face bitten off in what police have described as a "sickening" attack.

A 31-year-old man lost part of both ears, his upper lip and a part of his nose in the assault outside a nightclub in Liverpool city centre early last Saturday morning.

Merseyside police said the victim, who is from the Wavertree area of the city, is still in hospital and is expected to undergo reconstructive surgery.

The Funky Box nightclub, where the attack took place has had its alcohol licence suspended by the city council following police advice.

PC Stuart Moore described CCTV footage of the attack to Liverpool's licensing committee, telling them: "It is horrific, sickening and it is almost barbaric, what takes place."

Laurence Richard McGinn, 28, was charged with Section 18 wounding and remanded in custody.

He will appear at Liverpool Crown Court on November 28.

A 27-year-old man has been released on bail also in connection with the attack.
