Missing World Cup Motorcyclist: Body Found

Tests are under way to find out if a body found in Mexico is that of an adventure travel enthusiast who was motorcycling from the US to Brazil for the World Cup.

Harry Devert, a stock trader from New York, was last heard from when he told his girlfriend he was leaving the Pacific coastal state of Michoacan on January 25.

He said on social media that he was being given a military escort out of an area because it was too dangerous and was due to meet another escort shortly.

Human remains are understood to have been discovered next to the road leading to the resort of Playa La Majahua, in the state of Guerrero.

The body was found near Troncones, which is about 300 miles (450km) from where he set out but a short distance from his intended destination of Zihuatanejo.

Police have also revealed they found a motorcycle at the scene which was the same model as the one the 32-year-old had set out on months before.

A US Embassy spokesman told AP that the Mexican and American governments were working together to identify the remains.

Authorities were reported to have found a bag nearby containing packets of what appeared to be marijuana and cocaine.

Mr Devert's route would have taken him through an area said to be plagued by drug-related violence.

Some reports said that the body was found wrapped in a black plastic bag.

Mr Devert disappeared 44 days after setting out from his home to cross Central and South America with the intention of meeting up with friends in Brazil for the football tournament.

He set up a blog documenting his previous travels around the world and his planned route, which was due to take him thousands of miles to the southern tip of South America.

His last entry was on January 13 when he wrote about the reason why he was undertaking his journey, saying: "Everyone has different dreams. It's one of the things that make us human. Having a family is an adventure, as is getting married, as is climbing a mountain.

"We owe it to ourselves to test our limits. To pursue our dreams. To see what we're really capable of."

After he went missing his family set up a Facebook page called Help Find Harry in an attempt to locate him.

A series of pictures have been posted on the site in order to help locate Mr Devert.

The latest entry on the page, on July 12, said: "Ann, Harrys very much loved Mom, is getting ready to travel to Mexico and do what every Mom would do to find her son.

"I ask that you please keep Ann in your prayers, There is always hope for Harry, so please pray and hope."
