An Australian has escaped a prison sentence after he was caught drunk driving at a McDonald’s drive-through on a motorised cooler.

William Kropp was reported to police when he appeared at the drive-through apparently drunk and driving a small four-wheeled vehicle that consisted of a 49cc engine and a large drinks cooler.

He pleaded guilty to drunk driving and told police that he had consumed at least 10 alcoholic drinks that day - including pineapple vodka. His alcohol test revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.155 according to a local paper.

The vehicle had no lights, indicators or reflectors, but Kropp’s licence was returned to him in court when he appeared earlier this week.

He will serve a a two-year good behaviour bond without conviction. He will also complete driver education programs and submit an assignment on the illegality of driving such vehicles on public roads.

It’s not the first incident involving a motorised ‘Esky’ cooler in Australia. The mobile coolers are often seen at music festivals and other events.
