Mourinho Under Fire After Derby

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has been accused of "destroying Spanish football" after last night's bad tempered Super Cup final.

Barcelona won 5-4 on aggregate thanks to Lionel Messi's winner with three minutes left at the Nou Camp but the result was overshadowed by ugly scenes in the closing stages.

Mourinho made contact with the face of Barcelona's coach, Tito Vilanova, following a mass brawl which was sparked by Marcelo's wreckless tackle on Barca debutant Cesc Fabregas.

Marcelo was shown red for the challenge and Mesut Ozil and David Villa were both sent off for their part in the ruckus.

"Someone has to take action on the matter. Mourinho is destroying Spanish football," Barcelona defender Gerard Pique told reporters after the match. "There is talk about the Catalans, but the problem is with Madrid."

"I think it's going too far. It cannot always end well. In the end this will end very badly."

Mourinho is already serving a Champions League touchline ban for comments he made about Barcelona and could now face further punishment for his behaviour at the Nou Camp and comments made afterwards.

"We came here to play,"Mourinho said. "What I'm about to say is not a criticism, I'm just stating a fact: there were no ball-boys in the second half, which is something typical of small teams when experiencing difficulties.

"I'm not going to say we're happy because we didn't win the Spanish Super Cup, that would be hypocritical of me.

"But we intended to play like men and not fall on the ground at the slightest touch."

There was bad blood between the sides last season and Barcelona's manager Pep Guardiola says both need to be aware of the impact they have away from football.

"The images speak for themselves," he said. "We must be careful, because one day we will cause harm, not on the field but off, and we're all a little responsible for this."
