This Mum’s Expletive-Filled Rant About Homework Time Has Gone Viral

An expletive-filled diatribe about the pains of doing homework with your kids has gone viral.

Shelley Parkinson posted the rant in Facebook group The Unmumsy Mum complaining about a ‘comprehension’ task her nine-year-old daughter had been set.

The post has since attracted over 10,000 likes. While many commenters in the group found the status hilarious, the subsequent media coverage has led to criticism of Ms Parkinson.

The post, which has since been deleted, began “God… sorry need to rant… does any one else HATE [doing] homework with their kids?”

The task, which involved her daughter reading a story and then answering questions, revolved around a character called Ruth, who has “hair like the sun… a great job in an office… every day Ruth gets up and goes for a jog.“

Ms Parkinson said the character “sounds like a total c*** who makes me feel bad about myself”.

According to the post, after reading the story, her daughter replied, “Who is Ruth?”

"RUTH F*****G RUTH WITH HER HAIR AND HER JOB,” wrote Ms Parkinson in caps. “YOU KNOW RUTH WE JUST SPENT TEN MINUTES READING ABOUT, RUTH WHO GOES JOGGING EVERY MORNING, REMEMBER THAT T***?!!”

Although it was clearly pointed out that the mum didn’t actually say this to her daughter it didn’t stop criticism after the story was picked up.

After deleting the post, the group’s administrator joked “no I haven’t been asked to go on This Morning” and made several quips about the coverage (”traffic has gone through the Ruth”).

The negative press has caused amusement among regular posters in the group (Facebook/The Unmumsy Mum)
