Murdoch attacked during parliamentary appearance

By Ian Dunt

A young man has tried to attack Rupert Murdoch at his appearance at the select committee hearing in parliament.

It is difficult to establish precisely what happened at this early stage but it appears a member of the public tried to cover the media mogul in some sort of foam.

Wendi Deng, Mr Murdoch's wife, could be seen quickly striking back.

The chairman then shouted for order and the cameras went dead.

One person is reported to have been handcuffed, covered in white foam, and removed from the committee room.

Some reports suggest the man was a UKUncut activist.

The man alleged to have conducted the attack tweeted moments before: "It is a far better thing that I do now than I have ever done before #splat."

Uk Uncut quickly tweeted that the action was not an official action.
