OAP Charged For Crashing Car Into Shop

A 76-year-old woman has been charged with careless driving after crashing her car into a Florida supermarket, injuring 10 people, including a baby.

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) also released a video of the incident, which shows Thelma Wagenhoffer driving her Toyota Camry into the sliding glass entrance of the Publix supermarket in Palm Coast.

The footage shows her accelerating from the car park, before smashing through the entrance and ploughing into shoppers, including one with a pushchair.

Officials said the car made it up to 50ft into the store before coming to a standstill.

According to local newspaper The Daytona Beach News-Journal , Lasaunda Hampton, 33, her 15-year-old daughter, Marshanna Jones, and three-month-old newborn, Tyshawn Davis, escaped with minor injuries, and are recovering at home.

"She just pushed everybody out of the way like bowling pins," the mother told the paper.

Those injured were taken to Florida Hospital Flagler for treatment.

FHP captain Jerry Crews said it was "a miracle" no-one was killed in the incident on Saturday.
