Police: Three Dead In Family Home Incident

Two adults and a child have died following an incident at a house in the East Midlands, police have said.

Leicestershire Police said they received a report shortly before 4.30pm on Thursday that a 15-year-old girl had been injured in Melton Mowbray.

She was taken to hospital and during the investigation officers forced their way into a house where they discovered two children and two adults with injuries.

A man, a woman and a child later died, and two other children are being treated at the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham with serious injuries.

A police spokesman said: "We are in the initial stages of the investigation but at this stage we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

"The house has been cordoned off to allow for a forensic examination."

It is understood the injured teenage girl ran into the Swallowdale Primary School in the Robin Crescent area to raise the alarm.

A resident, who did not want to be named, said an armed police unit arrived at about 4.30pm and left at around 6.30pm. A forensic team remained at the scene.

A spokesman for the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said: "We have been notified by Leicestershire Constabulary of an incident in Melton today involving fatalities.

"We will be assessing the circumstances to determine whether the IPCC needs to be involved in any investigation."

A spokeswoman for Leicestershire Police would not comment on why the incident had been referred to the IPCC.
