Teen Admits Killing Pensioner During Riots

A 17-year-old boy has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of a pensioner during the riots last summer.

Richard Mannington Bowes, 68, was punched and knocked to the ground as he was trying to put out a fire in a dustbin outside his home in Ealing, west London.

He suffered brain damage when he banged his head on the pavement as he fell and died in hospital three days later.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, admitted manslaughter at a hearing at Inner London Crown Court.

He also pleaded guilty to violent disorder.

His 32-year-old mother denies perverting the course of justice.

The boy, from Hounslow, had previously admitted burglary of William Hill, Tesco Express, Blockbusters and Fatboys Thai restaurant on August 8.

The hearing has now been adjourned and will return to court on Tuesday.
