    Scooter Attack Witnesses' Flat Torched

A couple who filmed a scooter driver being dragged from his vehicle before it is stolen by rioters has described how their own flat was set on fire just minutes later.

Marko Silla and his girlfriend Mailis Andreson were forced to flee their home during the riots in Croydon on August 8 after witnessing the attack on the motorcyclist.

Mr Silla said the numbers of rioters on the street increased rapidly after the scooter was stolen: "Everything happened so fast. We saw two or three houses start to burn and there was a lot of smoke.

"We started to worry. We were really scared.

"The people opposite were shouting for us to come out and by the time we got out our flat was on fire."

The IT worker said he was only able to grab his mobile phone, keys, wallet and laptop before escaping the blaze.

He says he and his housemates lost many of their personal belongings including, televisions, speakers, CDs and photos.

The couple have been staying at the hotel where Ms Andreson works but have decided to leave the country and return to Estonia following the incident.

Just moments before they were forced from their home the couple shot footage of a scooter rider being assaulted and having his vehicle stolen.

The rider is seen trying to make his way along the road through the gathering crowd.

He is then set upon by a gang of around six people.

One drags him by the head from his scooter to the floor. An accomplice then drags the victim away from his vehicle before a third man rides the scooter away.

The thief is then shown just a few metres down the road after falling off the scooter.

He then jumps back onto the vehicle and drives it in the opposite direction and back into the crowd.

The incident happened during the disturbances on August 8, the night in which rioters caused widespread damage to the area, including setting fire to a furniture store.

:: Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

don't count on it, the opposition think that some of the sentences handed out to the rioters and people who went on facebook inciting trouble are too harsh. Its a joke.

If they get a tough sentence you'll have the people who were commenting on the other story about the Face Book scummers who were trying to start riots and got 4 years, complaining because it was more than people were getting for other crimes.

You can't please everybody. But I totally agree, there is no place in society for people who do that for fun

Very scary when one sees what can happen when people feel they can do whatever they wish with no consequences.

        I couldn't agree more.

Hi Everybody! - If the do-gooders have their way, there won't be any "consequences" for the rioters/looters to face. Six against One - how brave - Not!

Well, Alex, that is their makeup. Just cowardly scum. In a group - very hard. On their own -timid and good mannered.

What's weird these days is that all my recent internet shopping are being delivered by female drivers. Am guessing the black (or white) male ones are in jail?

Yet some people still feel sorry for the rioters and say its because they are poor. I feel sorry for anybody in poverty but surley this footage proves beyond all doubt that 99.9% of the people taking part in these riots were just SCUM!!!

The ones outside my house didn't look poor - definitely not poorer than me. Good quality jackets. trainers and bikes.

No-one in this country is absolutely on the poverty line most of the homeless are homeless because they want to be or can't or won't manage their money. Betting shop, drink and drugs are their main priority. Even a single person gets enough to live on. £20 a week is ample enough for food if you stay away from take-a-ways and fast food. They pay little or no rent . they don't need £50 jeans or £100+ trainers. It's all a matter of cutting your cloth to suit your needs. You can get a mobile for £5. a month which does the basics like calls and text and that is all you need. Anything else is a waste of money. I am single and live alone and I can manage on £50 per week easy.

They should be thrown in an Irish catholic church...there they will find love and maybe a bit of forgiveness and more love

They will get away with it they always do. cancel the olympics its not safe here and never will be now. The youth of the country have made thier choice. They want to live in a cesspit of a country thats what they have. If the Muslims get their way there wont be any churches catholic or otherwise. The church near where my wife was brought up. Burnt down by Muslims last January. No reason it was just a church in the wrong place at the wrong time. According to Islam that is.

What comment´s???? What a Loser´s. Even Animal´s beave better than them. They should pay for every thing they did. Make them o pay for all the mess and misery, that did against Innocent People. Dress them all in Orange, put them to work and clean all the Sheat they did.

This is truly revolting. They are like a pack of hyenas. How people can behave towards each other like that is beyond me. The guy on the scooter must have been terrified. If these thugs were attacking the super rich, etc, then it would make more sense (although not right), but they are attacking and robbing others that are probably in the same boat as themselves. They are just lowlife scum who thrive on violence and care nothing for others.

Give back the power of parents and schools to properly dicipline unruly thugs!

The really sad thing about this crime is that after the trauma of being in fear for his life and having his vehicle stolen the insurance company will only give him a fraction of what it was worth and they are just as bad as the thieves if not worse..

Awful. HUMAN RIGHTS?? The way that kid dragged him away by his clothes to let the other rob him - thats not human.
    • Kingsley  •  9 months ago
... ok Penal Reform cloud-heads, where are the HUMAN RIGHTS of
the guy who was attacked and robbed of his vehicle ?
    • paul  •  9 months ago
Its not about human rights... Its about LAW ... WE SHOULD START AN INTERNET CAMPAIGN TO INCREASE JAILS AND LOCK UP THIS SCUM !! AND THROW AWAY THE KEY... WE COULD HAVE PRISONS THAT ARE BUILT UNDERGROUND...NO SUNLIGHT FOR THE SCUM.
    • ANDREW  •  9 months ago
These Human Rights people are TOTAL MORONS.Its the slack discipline that has got this country in such a mess, there is always some "do-gooder" trying for the softly softly approach.Tough sentences send a warning to others or there wont be any detterent to stop this mindless thuggery.
    • SIMON  •  9 months ago
Dont worry - the human rights sheeple are allready bleating on about tough sentencing - ofc nothing has ever happened to them in there mansion houses....
