St Lucia: More Arrests Over Roger Pratt Murder

Two more people have been arrested in the inquiry into the murder in St Lucia of a 62-year-old Briton who was sailing around the world.

It brings the total number arrested in the investigation into the death of Roger Pratt to five.

Mr Pratt and his wife Margaret were on the island ahead of her 60th birthday and had docked their boat Magnetic Attraction in a harbour on the Caribbean island.

They had hoped to leave earlier, but had been delayed due to a bureaucratic hold-up, and Mr Pratt was forced to fend off unidentified attackers who boarded their boat.

Mrs Pratt found her husband floating in the water. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

A post mortem carried out on Tuesday found out that Mr Pratt died from drowning after suffering a traumatic blow to the head.

Mrs Pratt was also attacked and had to be treated for her injuries.

In comments distributed by the government information service, she said: "There were no knives, no guns, although of course, considerable violence in the attack.

"We've not felt unsafe in St Lucia until the events of those final tragic minutes, and have had considerable kindness from very many people."

The island's tourism minister was forced to reassure potential visitors to the upmarket destination amid fears the murder could affect the number of people wanting to come.

Tourism accounts for two thirds of the economy on St Lucia.

Lorne Theophilus said: "I wish to assure you that as a destination St Lucia remains relatively safe for nationals and visitors alike.

"We are fully committed to seeing this investigation through to a final conclusion."
