Hummingbird: Girlfriend Paps Jason Statham

Jason Statham took his supermodel girlfriend to the world premiere of his latest film Hummingbird - and she added a few red carpet snaps of her own to their photo album.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who's been dating the actor for around three years, turned photographer, papping her man on her phone as he signed autographs for fans in London's Leicester Square.

She posted them online - including a picture of her hummingbird tattoo - and said she was proud of the star.

But Statham was more tight-lipped about his girlfriend. Asked what she makes of his movies he said: "I've no clue. We certainly don't sit at home watching them."

The actor, 45, plays Joey Jones, a homeless ex-special forces soldier on the run from a military court martial and who finds himself having to deal with London's criminal underworld.

Despite playing the tough guy for much of his career, including roles in Fast & Furious and Transporter, Statham insists he is not afraid of being typecast.

"This is a different human being altogether. We're trying to give a little bit more of an interesting character," he said.

"The Joey Jones of this film is a little bit more fragile than the sort of people that I've played in the past."

And he said he likes being thought of as an action man.

"It's nice to be employed. There's a ton of actors out there that aren't. I enjoy the action movies. It's been a great living for me for the last decade now," he added.

Director Steven Knight, who wrote the Oscar-nominated screenplay for Dirty Pretty Things, said Statham is a natural action hero.

"Like a lot of people who are genuinely tough guys ... they have nothing to prove and I think that makes him easy to work with," he said.

Hummingbird opens in cinemas on June 28.
