Steve Coogan Begins Leveson Testimony

Actor and comedian Steve Coogan has begun his testimony to the Leveson Inquiry into media standards.

Lord Leveson said he "appreciated" Mr Coogan's attendance, and acknowledged that some information may be discussed that he may not be comfortable with.

He said he has discovered reporters going through his bins and approaching friends offering money for information.

He said he was caught out by a News Of The World columnist who, Mr Coogan claimed, set him up to confirm details of a story in return for more intimate information being withheld.

"After that my manager received a phone call from [then-editor Andy] Coulson that they were going to put everything in the paper."
