Tech City iPhone and Android app gets government backing

As part of the Government's Tech City initiative, a pair of mobile apps have gone live in the App Store and the Android Market, complete with HM Government's backing.

The HM Government tag is attached to the developer name of the iPhone version of the app; making it only the second app, after the official Number 10 one, to get the backing of Cameron and his Cabinet.

The Android app has Mobile Roadie listed as the publisher (powered by credit on the iOS version) but the apps are much of a muchness - both offering the same setup and both going live on the same day.

What they offer is the opportunity to "find out what Government has done, what's happening in Tech City, and access some exclusive content". The apps pack "all the news, all the events, all in one place" and "recounts policy changes, explains some new initiatives, and includes news of what corporate partners are doing too".

Tech City, in case you're unfamiliar, is the moniker afforded to the bunch of web and tech based businesses that have made the area between Old Street and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London's East End their base.

Prime Minister David Cameron has set out the Government's ambition for London's East End to become a world-leading technology city to rival Silicon Valley and Vodafone, Google, Facebook, Intel are all on board to help that ambition become reality.

The app also features Aurasma, a UK based AR specialist - which lets you create "Auras", a podcast section, a Twitter stream and a list of upcoming events.

The Tech City app is available now and is free in both the Apple App Store and the Android Market.
