The Routemaster - what's the verdict on the new 'Boris' bus?

The new double-decker hop-on, hop off Routemaster hit the roads for the first time on Monday.

Yahoo! News spoke to passengers at the bus's London Victoria Station home to find out what their first impressions were of the new vehicle which cost an estimated £1.4million each.

“I was more or less the first or second person to board it at Hackney Central this morning. It is very good, but the only thing I don’t like about it is all these people that have complained that it costs too much and it’s a waste of money. You know there are people who were sad when the Routemasters went in 2005, so don’t complain that Boris [Johnson, London Mayor] has done what you wanted and brought them back.”

Russ Rowlings, pensioner

“I’ve come all the way from York about 200 miles north of here today especially to go on it. I thought it looked great. I think it’s going to be a tremendous introduction into London, I think it’s a great success and I hope that the development costs are going to be spread across other fleets of the UK as other people will see the benefits of it and take it as well.”

David Titten, pensioner

“I hope they do some modifications to it to make it look a bit more like the original Routemaster, but it looks like a good replacement for the original London Routemaster. I am yet to go on it, so I am looking forward to that.”
