Three big new gadgets to expect at next week’s Berlin tech show

Consumer electronics show IFA takes place this week and rumours and leaks are spinning the mills left, right and centre with what we can expect to see unveiled at the event.

From new flagship smartphones and tablets to wearable technology and possibly even a set of camera lenses, it’s certainly destined to be a show worthy of your attention.

There will be hundreds of launches, but three of the big new gadgets are set to come from Samsung, Sony and LG.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3

It has been confirmed the Galaxy Note 3 along with the Galaxy Gear smartwatch will be on the agenda for the Samsung’s second Unpacked 2013 event of the year, taking place on 4 September.

Reports suggest the Galaxy Note 3 will be joining the company’s Note family with a 5.68-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, 3GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB/64GB storage options with a microSD slot for an additional 64GB.

It is thought there will be two devices for different regions, like Samsung did for the Galaxy S4, one with an Oct8-core processor with speeds up to 1.8GHz and the other with a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor.

You will also be greeted with a 3200mAh battery, Android Jelly Bean 4.3 and a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with Xenon flash, if claims from SIM Only Radar are accurate. Plus, the usual connectivity features should be intact including Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, USB 2.0, GPS, Samsung OTG (On the Go) and LTE-Advanced 4G connectivity.

Numbers aside, it looks like the Galaxy Note 3 will be a handset to be reckoned with if everything comes to light.

Sony Xperia Z1

Sony will be holding its press conference a couple of hours before Samsung on 4 September, and it seems the Xperia Z1, previously codenamed the Xperia Honami will be the star of the show.

Several teasers have been leaked by Sony in the run up to IFA through Twitter and Google+ from an image of the power button, to a video presenting a closer look at the handsets features.

It seems the Xperia Z1 will sport a similar body design to the Xperia Z with plenty of bezel and an all-round hefty look, plus the Z's colour options of purple, white and black if Digi-wo is right.

The video confirms the Xperia Z1 will sport the waterproof feature and G lens branding with a dedicated shooting button for the camera. Rumours have suggested the handset will come with a 20-megapixel camera, as well as the possibility of 4K video.

Other claims online believe a 5-inch 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage (expandable through microSD) and a 3000mAh battery will be present. A 2-megapixel camera for video call and support for 4G LTE and NFC are also expected.

It looks like the 4 September will be an exciting day in the tech world.

LG G Pad

Following a video teaser last week, LG has officially announced the G Pad tablet is on its way.

The tablet will come with an 8.3-inch screen sporting a 1900 x 1200-pixel display with 273ppi. It will also include a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, 4200mAh battery, 16GB of storage and a 5-megapixel camera.

You will find Jelly Bean Android 4.2.2 and a feature called Qpair which allows G Pad users to pair to their smartphone and manage calls and messages directly from their tablet.

The last LG tablet, the Optimus Pad, was launched back in the summer of 2011 so we hope the announcement a week before IFA will mean the tablet will be adding to the unveilings this week.

Don't plan too much this week if you don't miss a beat. Get ready to keep your eyes peeled, ears to the ground and fingers tapping.
