Britain continues to bask in glorious summer temperatures this week - and forecasters say it should be more of the same this weekend.

Temperatures were set to peak at 27C by the end of this week, making the last few days the hottest of the year by over three degrees.

The Met Office predicted 'glorious sunshine' lasting into next week, while Weather Outlook said 'temperatures will rise towards the weekend'.

The balmy summer forecast is expected to last at least until Saturday, although some conflicting predictions stated that more unsettled weather could threaten parts of the UK early next week.

The south of England will see the best of the hot weather, while the mercury could peak at around 23C in northern areas and 21C in Scotland.

Dan Williams, Met Office forecaster, said: 'We expect 22C highs on Tuesday and Thursday, 24C or 25C on Friday, and temperatures could be higher if a place gets long hours of sunshine and low winds.'
