More than 300 people were evacuated from the St Georges Basin and Sussex Inlet in New South Wales after a second day of wild weather caused widespread flooding. NSW’s State Emergency Services have received 1,564 calls for assistance and conducted 74 flood rescues since heavy rain began on Monday, August 24. The Jerrara Dam was given a safety clearance on Wednesday morning following earlier warnings from the authorities that the dam wall could fail.

Heavy rain was expected to continue on Wednesday, August 26, and the State Emergency Services said residents should expect to wait at least another 24 to 48 hours before they would be able to return home, according to ABC News. Credit: Fire and Rescue NSW
