The opulence of Viktor Pshonka Ukraine’s former General Prosecutor on show

Ukraine’s former General Prosecutor Viktor Pshonka has left his plush villa on the outskirts of Kyiv, his whereabouts unknown. The one time close ally of ousted President Viktor Yanukovych has fled and his opulent residence is now under the control of the Pravyj Sector – the far right. Euronews cameras were given a tour through rooms adorned with antiques, pictures and ancient icons. It is a glimpse of a life lived in luxury and in strong contrast to the lives of the people Pshonka would pass judgement on. The public are not allowed in, security is tight to prevent looting and to protect what could prove to be valuable evidence. Curiosity has drawn visitors from the city. “We’d all like to live like this ourselves. At least for several days,” said one while another added, “I was shocked when I saw pictures of the mansion. You watch them and you think this one is probably the last but no there is another one and then one after that with a new statue or something like that.” Those pictures which include one of a private swimming pool and a billiard table have raised many questions including how and where the former General Prosecutor acquired the antiques and valuable art work. The answers to those questions it is hoped will come when the man who lived here in such style is finally tracked down.
