US Navy Previews New Tube-Launched Swarming Drone Technology

Bees and hornets can swarm, so why not drones? The US Navy’s technology research office previewed on April 14 a tube-launched system they’re calling LOCUST, for Low-Cost Unmanned aerial vehicle Swarming Technology. LOCUST can be used to quickly get multiple drones up in the air. Then, it links them together, allowing them to talk to each other and attack. In the video, however, the swarming drones look more like a flock of birds. Credit: YouTube/Office of Naval Research Science & Technology
